Subject Name: Food and Hospitality

Recommended Knowledge: C grade or better in one semester of Stage 1 Food and Hospitality or Stage 1 Child Studies.
Students develop skills in using technology and safe work practices in the preparation, storage, and handling of food and complying with current health and safety legislation.
Stage 2 Food and Hospitality focuses on the contemporary and changing nature of the food and hospitality industry.
Students critically examine contemporary and future issues within the food and hospitality industry and the influences of economic, environmental, legal, political, socio-cultural and technological factors at local, national and global levels.
Assignment topics include:
- the locavore movement
- function centre desserts
- street food
- afternoon tea
- modern Australian cuisine and
- the impact of social media on food businesses.

• Investigation – 2000 words 30%
Length: Full year.
SACE Attainment: 20 Credits.
Delivery Mode: Onesite, face to face, with excursions and guest speakers.
Costing: $20 to cover food and transport costs for excursions.
Additional Notes: Students choosing to undertake this subject must understand that it is an academic subject. Although it features practical components, it is not primarily a practical subject.
