Year 10 Home Economics
Subject Name: Home Economics
Level: Year 10
Learning Area: Health and Physical Education
Recommended Knowledge: Achieving the Year 9 standard.
This course has a significant focus on the Food and Hospitality industry.
Students will explore current food trends and eating patterns and investigate and make judgements on the ethical and sustainable production and marketing of food.
There are four practical assignments with each containing three components:
1. A design brief or research task
2. A practical activity related to the topic explored in the first component of the assignment
3. A reflection/evaluation of the practical activity
One of the practical assignments will be conducted as a small group and focuses on the development of a healthy convenience food product.
Performance is assessed against the Australian Curriculum standard and reported with A to E grades at the completion of the semester.
Assessment types may include:
• Practical tasks – e.g. weekly cooking of recipes and construction of a personalised pencil case
• Design brief
• Research task
• Evaluation reports
Length: One Semester.
SACE Attainment: In the second semester, students have the option to undertake this course as a Stage 1 course.
If students achieve a ‘C’ grade or higher, they will gain 10 credits towards their SACE.
Delivery Mode: Onsite, face to face.
Additional Information: Learning in this course may be integrated with other curricula.
