Recommended Knowledge: C grade or better in Year 9 Physical Education.
• Practical Skills and Application – Practical’s will be negotiated to cater for different skills, interest and needs to maximize the opportunity for success. Students complete 3 practical’s in each course each going for approximately 6 weeks in length. In practical’s students participate in regular physical activity and practice and refine their physical skills and techniques. Students are required to demonstrate a sense of fair play, respect the rights of others and show care and safety for equipment. Each practical topic will be worth 20% of the final grade. Half of this will be for the actual practical and half for a written reflection which is required on the practical. (This reflection will highlight the students’ development, feelings, strengths and weaknesses experienced during the practical to a maximum of 750 words).
• Folio – Consists of the following two areas of study:
– The Nature of Physical Activity (requires experimental, analytical approach to physical activity and well-being)
– Issues Analysis (students analyse issues that are relevant to local, national and global communities through sporting topics of interest to them).
Each area of study is worth 20% of the final grade and is a written piece to a maximum of 1000 words.
Students have the option to undertake this course as a Stage 1 course.
If students achieve a ‘C’ grade or higher, they will gain 10 credits towards their SACE.
