We welcome students, parents, friends and old scholars to Oakbank Area School. We are a unique and vibrant R-12 school, catering for students of the Onkaparinga Valley and Hills district.
The OAS campus is located in well-maintained and attractive grounds between the small towns of Oakbank and Balhannah. The semi rural setting is within easy commuting distance to Adelaide.
The primary schools of Oakbank and Balhannah both date back to the 1850’s; the schools merge in 1933 to form the Oakbank Consolidated School. This title was changed in 1944 to Oakbank Area School. A comprehensive history of the school “Under the gums”, was published in 1988.
The school has a student population of approximately 600, from Reception to Year 12, and it continues to provide a comprehensive and progressive school curriculum, which allows individuals to discover new skills, new ideas and the competencies for University, TAFE or employment. We want our students to build on their personal strengths and abilities to develop positive and respectful relationships with one another.
Academic excellence is promoted alongside social and emotional well-being. Graduates from OAS have gone on to study law, engineering, teaching, robotics, nanotechnology, film and media to name just a few.
Oakbank Area School is one school operating as three complementary and sequential sub schools:
Each of these three sub schools has its own Coordinator and operates as a smaller, cohesive unit within the school. This enables students’ changing learning, social and physical needs to be met.
