Within the school community, we have a number of students who, due to a learning disability, receive extra support within their classroom. This support is provided by School Service Officers (SSO) with students being assisted on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
Assistance is provided on a range of subjects and organised in consultation with the student’s subject teacher. The aim of the support is to ensure that students are able to access all areas of the curriculum, develop their numeracy and literacy and to function within the school community in appropriate ways.
There are also occasions when students are withdrawn from their lessons for support.
Teachers also devise special programs for students who need extra support, though this can be limited due to the availability of appropriate resources. The student support services are currently overseen by the Assistant Principals (R-7 and 8-12) who are supported by an SSO in arranging interviews, reports and class allocation for support personnel.
Student support is provided in partnership between DECS personnel, parents and the school. A number of support service personnel work with individuals and groups of students to maximise learning outcomes.
Each student who receives support has a review conducted of their Negotiated Education Plan on an ongoing basis.
