An introductory course in the study of nutrition, healthy eating and lifestyles, hygiene and safety in food preparation, measurement of ingredients and basic kitchen skills.
Students will identify and interpret food labelling, understand the need for good eating habits, be familiar with the 5 food groups and why they are important and make informed choices regarding their diet.
Students will learn to operate the kitchen appliances and tools, accurate measurement of ingredients and to prepare and cook basic recipes.
Performance is assessed against the Australian Curriculum standard and reported with A to E grades at the completion of the semester.
Assessment is derived from a combination of theoretical assignments, bookwork and practicals in the kitchen.
Length: One Semester.
